(Response is just fine!)
Ted certainly didn’t want his pills – although they did knock him out they didn’t do any damn good with the underlying cause, they didn’t make him any less aware of what he’d seen and they left him feeling the next day as if even thinking was damned hard work. The one thing that made him feel better had always been Cody and that had not changed. With a few soothing words and caresses, Cody managed to have the nightmare leave him far quicker than it would have done otherwise and Ted knew that was because of what Cody meant to him and how much Cody cared. The TV in the background helped, the flickering light meaning that he could better see Cody while the volume was too low for him to be really distracted. It was rather soothing to have human voices in the background though.
Some people might have found his rapid descent back into sleep surprising, but Ted was used to it. When Cody wasn’t there and he had one of his nightmares (they weren’t frequent and didn’t plague him while he was working, but certainly at the beginning he hadn’t spent every night with his lover), the others presence was enough of a comfort to him that he was able to sleep as soon as the shaking had stopped. Or maybe it was a defence mechanism, so that he wouldn’t have to tell Cody he was still reliving the day that had earned him a medal – Cody was probably astute enough so that he already knew that anyway.
When he actually did wake up properly, he could see the sun struggling through the curtains and realised the television was still on. He frowned slightly, glancing at Cody’s sleeping face and wondering if they had fallen asleep with a film on – and then he remembered the nightmare and sighed. He hated doing that to Cody, because it wasn’t going to make his fiancé feel any better about letting him go off to some foreign country where people were trying to kill him... although he was damn glad for his own sake that Cody had been there. He knew there would be a call summoning him back in the next day or so, but he hoped it wasn’t today – not only did he have a wedding suit to find, he wanted more time with the man he loved. He didn’t think that was a big ask, considering the next time he saw Cody, they would be about to be married.
